A certificate is the difference between a beautiful stone and a beautiful stone you can trust. For a Ceylon sapphire, three lines on that report carry almost all of the value: origin, treatment, and a faithful description of the stone in front of you.
Origin tells you where the sapphire formed. The most respected laboratories, GIA, GRS and SSEF, compare a stone's trace elements and inclusions against reference collections to determine country of origin. A confirmed Sri Lankan (Ceylon) origin is its own mark of quality: the island has produced sapphires for over two thousand years.
Treatment is where most of the value is won or lost. The vast majority of sapphires on the market are heated, baked at high temperature to deepen or clarify their colour. A stone certified 'no indications of heating' is rare, and commands a premium, because its colour is entirely the work of the earth. Every significant stone we offer is tested for treatment, and we specialise in unheated material.
The rest of the report (carat weight, measurements, cut, and colour grade) simply describes the stone accurately so there are no surprises. Read together, a certificate is not paperwork. It is provenance you can hold.
